John Lennon Imagine Series Grand Piano
Steinway’s John Lennon “Imagine” series grand is modelled after the piano he gifted his wife, Yoko Ono, on her birthday in 1971. This incredibly limited edition collection was developed with the intention of paying tribute to the musical genius of John Lennon. With production limited to only 25 grand pianos worldwide, this is a truly rare piece.
The John Lennon “Imagine” grand piano is a 6’2″ parlor grand that was custom built and handcrafted at Steinway’s world-renowned Hamburg, Germany factory. This beautiful grand piano captures the perfect harmony between creativity and music that was at the essence of John Lennon’s songs.
Finished in a stunning polished white finish, this piano dons the opening notes of Lennon’s “Imagine” on the plate as well as a numbered plaque bearing John Lennon’s signature. The soundboard features a illustration of Lennon’s drawing, Freda People – Exemplifies Lennon’s passion for using music for the benefit of mankind.
Furthermore, each piano from this collection features one of seven illustrations from the late musician on the piano’s music desk. Only 25 instruments of each design were produced, making this particular piano even more rare.
While it is easy to get lost in the aesthetic uniqueness and beauty of this instrument, it must be said that this piano is not merely an art piece. Beneath the wonderful artwork is a stunning parlor grand that exudes power, delicacy, expression, color, and musicality. As one would expect from a Hamburg Steinway, this piano is an absolute dream to play. The balance between tone and touch is perfectly symbiotic, which ensures that players are able to access a musical connectivity to this piano that is seldom felt.
Whether you are a lifelong Beatles fan, an admirer of the genius of John Lennon, or, simply, a lover of beautiful pianos, this 2013 John Lennon “Imagine” grand piano is both a majestic instrument and piece of art Do not miss out on this truly unique opportunity to own a piece of music history.
History
#595780, lived in the Dakota Apartment Building, NYC as part of the Estate of Jacqueline Bikoff. She long lived in the Dakota and was a pianist who acquired the Grand Piano new in 2014/15 but sadly passed away late 2015. Her estate sold the Grand Piano to a local dealer where we eventually purchased for the The Imagine Collection. Read more about Jacqueline Bikoff’s Life in the Dakota
This STEINWAY LIMITED EDITION piano has concluded its run and is no longer being produced by STEINWAY & SONS.
The music desk of each piano incorporates one of seven unique John Lennon original drawings. “Come Together,” the title of the opening track on the Beatles’ historic Abbey Road album, reflects John Lennon’s desire to bring people together. “Grand Piano” (no longer available) is a drawing that captures the songwriting process — as musician and piano become one. “Freda People” exemplifies John Lennon’s passion for using music for the benefit of mankind. “Self Portrait” (no longer available) is perhaps John Lennon’s most famous drawing — despite the simplicity, it’s unmistakably John. “Borrowed Time” includes a sketch of an upright piano, such as the legendary STEINWAY on which Lennon composed “Imagine.” “Frog Pondering” perfectly demonstrates a blend of the creative and playful sides of Lennon. In “Power to the People,” we see a combination of Lennon’s love for freedom, as well as of New York, with his rendition of the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor.
The soundboard of every Imagine piano is graced by a full color decal, also based on a drawing from John Lennon.
A portion of the proceeds from the Imagine piano sold by STEINWAY & SONS was donated to The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus.
This mobile exhibition can be utilized for the Grand Opening here and other Hotel locations or it could be a permanent attraction for additional build out of Beatle’s English themed pubs and grub in the hotel. Can you IMAGINE the piano playing in the lobby when you check in?
